Adnan Kussair (AK), working under the label amarantcreative, is a freelance graphic designer specializing in environmental, print, identity, and web/interactive design.

I could start off by saying that my first love ever since I was a “wee little chap” was design, but then I would be lying. Actually my true first love was science. That’s right! I even had a lab in my room with a microscope, beakers, test tubes, you name it. It’s all because of that darn thing called curiosity, I always wanted to see how everything worked (ask my dad, he will vouch for me by probably telling you the story of when he came home from work to find his brand new cutting edge 4-head VCR meticulously dissected all over the living room carpet).

Design is part art, part science, as much intuition as elegance. It’s knowing when to add a flourish and when subtraction is the ideal course of action.

I found that quote on an Audi B7 RS4 Brochure (my current motoring crush). To me it means that design is a balance of engineering and aesthetics, of less and more, a sort of harmony of function and beauty. When someone asks me why I am so crazy about design, this quote eloquently explains how design is a combination of my two true loves (science and art). Mix function and beauty with some emotion and you have got one heck of a design solution.

I am passionate about design.

Quite simply, I want to do amazing design work. Whether I am working on a team with other talented designers/developers or on a solo freelance project, my goal is to create award winning, truly cutting edge design solutions. Every new challenge is an opportunity to explore, discover, embrace, and evolve.

AK, has a ton of hobbies but on the top of his list is his love for cars, drawing them, buying them, fixing them, hugging them, kissing them, you name it. He is happily married to Shakila Dawood, a darn hot looking brit (she is really sweet too), who often gets jealous of his 2nd wife, a 15” Intel MacBook Pro. He has a little brother, Irfan Kussair, who has more energy than a can of Red Bull. Oh, can’t forget about his mother, Shahin Abbas, she is an amazing woman (single parent, been through a lot) who has a weird wish to have her whole back yard full of ivy instead of a lawn.
